Baseball

I hate baseball...yes I know hate is a bad word in USA, the lord only knows why!

Yet to say the "f" word for toot is the norm...please! Are there no standards??

I digress, so back to baseball. I am a good mum I let my child play and I have many questions for the organisers of this sport.

1. Why is it necessary to give a 9 year old written homework for baseball when he already has homework from school?

2. Why is it necessary to play at least three times a week for at least 2 1/2 hours each time?

3. Why do coaches slip in an extra practise giving parents 24-48 hours notice & demand that if the child cannot attend he sits on the bench for the next game?

4. Why is a child who is late made to sit on the bench?

5. Then there are the parades & home derby's to attend.

6. The photo sessions which are bedlam with hundreds of kids aged 5-15 all rigged up in these silly outfits that are so desperately ready for an update.

7. Do any children eat a decent meal during baseball season? I guess McDonald's make a killing!

8. How many parents pull the uniform out of the wash & the kids have to wear it dirty as there is no "breather" to throw a washer load on?

I know this is an American tradition & I do not want to insult anyone however...

I hate Baseball!

Now I feel better!

Baseball sucks.

Thank god the royal family of Northfield avoids baseball at ALL costs!

wow - that sounds truly miserable for all involved.

I hate to say it, but I love baseball - mainly though because it is long and relaxed and you can drink a lot of beers during a game... I've never seen the little league angle.

I think you hit it on the head....there is no alcohol allowed!

I knew there must be some enjoyment somewhere!

Thanks for the warning! So far we've managed to avoid team sports, and apparently that's a good thing!

oh I hate baseball- as you know-- but this is all about American schools attitude toward team sports-- how a family can support the ctivity and not collapse in a heap at the prospect is beyond me-- all the driving! it's crazy-- but you know me-- hate anything that interrupts my nap

Yes, agree with you on this one. Tried to hide my pleasure this season when The Little Guy announced that he hates baseball and didn't want to sign up this year! Score!!! No more sitting in the rain for more than 2 hours 3 times a week. No more lioness moments when an overenthusiastic coach the size of a greyhound bus yells at my son for throwing the bat in his eagerness to get to first base. No more lost summer evenings. No more embarrassing moments trying to buy a 'cup' for an 8-year old from a spotty male student at Joe's Sports store.............I could go on, but you get my drift.

I agree with you on all those points, but count yourself lucky they're not playing cricket - my brother's matches used to be all-day affairs in remote villages all over Yorkshire. I read a lot of hefty novels.

I think it's a suburban thing because here in the big city, we can never find practice fields (seriously), so you get perhaps one a week and then a game on Saturday. Fabulous! If I needed to be more involved than that I'm afraid I'd have to enrol them in chess club or something.
The worst thing about kids' baseball (and t-ball to a lesser extent) is the bloody parents. There should be a rule that you can't coach on your own kid's team.

Just had to share the first 'cup story' as I daren't put it on my blog. When my older guy first had to wear one, the Ball and Chain was out of town and I hadn't a clue. Finally managed to buy the right one, and my son wanted to deal with things on his own. He came down the stairs to go to practice with the cup on over the top of all his baseball clothes. Ah. I don't know how I kept a staight face.
